GPS Mapper

Location information is used on your device to power the app's core features: recording trails, mapping your grid exploration, showing your position, and guiding you to saved places. It is stored on your device and synced through your own iCloud account, which only you can access. Your location is never sent to our servers, is never included in the anonymous usage statistics described below, and is never sold or shared with third parties.

If you turn on Location Sharing, GPS Mapper shares your current position with the specific people you invite: latitude and longitude, altitude, accuracy, the name of your device, its battery level, and a timestamp. This travels through Apple's iCloud sharing, directly between your iCloud account and theirs. It does not pass through our servers, we cannot read it, and it is never included in the anonymous usage statistics. Sharing is off until you turn it on, reaches only the friends you choose, and stops the moment you switch it off or remove that person.

GPS Mapper can send anonymous statistics about which features are used, so we can see what to improve. You are asked once, shortly after you first open the app, and nothing is ever sent unless you say yes. When it is switched on, the app records short category-only events, such as that a pin was created, that an import finished, that the upgrade screen was shown, or that a sync error occurred. Alongside them it sends the app version, the iOS version, the app's display language, whether the build came from the App Store or TestFlight, a randomly generated identifier for this installation, and a random identifier for the app session. Quantities are rounded into ranges such as "2-10" rather than exact numbers, and sync, import and sharing problems are recorded as a short technical error label, never the error message itself. Statistics are held on your device and uploaded at most once a day, in the background.

Usage statistics never include your location or coordinates, the shape of your trails, your grids, routes, ranges or overlays, your photos, or any place name, file name, tag, note or other text you type or draw in the app. They contain no name, email address, phone number, Apple Account, or IP address, and no advertising identifier. The installation identifier is generated at random on your device, is not your device's advertising identifier, and is not connected to you, to your Apple Account, or to any other data set. We do not attempt to identify you from these statistics or to rebuild a profile of you from them.

GPS Mapper contains no advertising, no third-party analytics services, and no tracking SDKs. The usage statistics described above are collected by us alone and used for one purpose: to understand which features people use and where the app fails, so we can decide what to build and fix. They are never used for advertising or marketing, never sold or rented, never shared with data brokers, and never combined with data collected from other companies' apps or websites. GPS Mapper does not track you across other apps or websites and does not ask for permission to do so.

Usage statistics are sent to a server we operate ourselves, running on Cloudflare Workers with a Cloudflare D1 database. Cloudflare acts solely as our hosting provider: it stores and processes this data on our behalf, is not permitted to use it for its own purposes, and is contractually required to protect it to the same standard set out in this policy and required by Apple's guidelines. Our server neither reads nor stores IP addresses. As with any internet connection, Cloudflare's network carries the connection itself and may keep limited technical connection records under Cloudflare's own privacy policy. No other company receives this data.

Individual usage events are deleted automatically 24 months after we receive them. You can withdraw your consent at any time in the app, under Settings, Privacy, "Share Anonymous Usage Stats". Because the identifier is random, is never shown to you, and is never linked to your name, email address or Apple Account, we cannot trace statistics back to an individual — which also means we cannot pick out your rows to delete them on request. Turning that switch off is the mechanism: it stops collection immediately, deletes anything still waiting on your device, and permanently destroys the identifier, so any statistics already shared can never be connected to your device again. Whatever has already reached us is deleted on the 24-month schedule.

With your permission, GPS Mapper reads your steps, walking and running distance, calories, exercise time and heart rate from Apple Health to show your activity, and can save recorded trails to Apple Health as workouts with their route. It can also use motion data to improve tracking accuracy and battery life, show your photos on the map according to where they were taken, and connect to a Bluetooth heart-rate monitor. All of this stays on your device and in Apple Health. None of it is sent to our servers and none of it is used for marketing, advertising or profiling. The single exception is that, when usage statistics are switched on and a workout begins in Apple Health, the app records that this happened — nothing more. No activity type, no measurement, no heart rate and nothing read from Apple Health is ever included. Each permission is optional and can be changed at any time in iOS Settings.

GPS Mapper Premium is sold through Apple's In-App Purchase system. Apple handles the payment; we never see or receive your payment card, billing address or Apple Account details. Your subscription status is kept on your device. When usage statistics are switched on, the app records whether a purchase was started, completed, restored, cancelled or failed, and whether it was the monthly or the yearly plan. It never records an amount, a receipt, a transaction identifier or any payment detail.

Map tiles, place search and place names come from Apple Maps. When you search for a place, or the app looks up the name of somewhere you visited, that request is handled by Apple under Apple's own privacy policy. We do not receive it, and it is never included in the anonymous usage statistics.

Apart from the anonymous usage statistics described above, everything GPS Mapper creates stays with you: trails, pins, grids, routes, ranges, overlays, visits, tags and groups are stored on your device and in your own iCloud, unless you choose to share them. You can export all of it, or delete any of it, at any time from within the app. Deleting the app removes the copy on your device, and removing the app's data in your iCloud settings removes the synced copy.

Under Settings, the Report a Bug, Contact Support and Suggest a Feature options open your own mail app with a message already prepared. Alongside what you write, that message includes the app version, your device model and your iOS version, so we can reproduce what you are describing. Nothing leaves your device until you send it yourself, and you can edit or delete any part of the message, including those technical details, first. If you do send it, the message and your email address arrive in the developer's mailbox, where they are used only to answer you.
